RAS Error 733 over PPP due to RAS not using TCP/IP.

Cause:

The Remote Access server cannot connect TCP/IP clients because the TCP/IP protocol is not selected in the RAS server network configuration.

Solution:

In the ‘Remote Access Setup’ dialog box, select the RAS device used to connect clients and click ‘Network...’. In the ‘Server Settings’ group, select the ‘TCP/IP’ check box and click ‘Configure...’.

NOTE: You must be a member of the ADMINISTRATORS local group to perform the following procedure.

1) Open the Control Panel.

2) Double-click the ‘Network’ icon. (The ‘Network’ dialog box appears.)

3) Click the ‘Services’ tab, and double-click ‘Remote Access Service’ in the ‘Network Services’ list box. (The ‘Remote Access Setup’ dialog box appears.)

4) Click ‘Network...’. (The ‘Network Configuration’ dialog box appears.)

5) In the ‘Server Settings’ group, select the check box(es) for the desired protocol(s) below ‘Allow remote clients running’.

Select the desired protocol(s)
NOTE: You can select more than one protocol for remote client connections; all protocol(s) selected for remote client connections must be installed on your server.

6) Configure the TCP/IP protocol for remote clients:
NOTE: If a protocol is not selected for client connections, the ‘Configure’ button is grayed out, and cannot be selected. You must configure each protocol selected for use by clients before clients can connect with the selected protocol(s).

a) Click ‘Configure...’ next to ‘TCP/IP’. (The ‘RAS Server TCP/IP Configuration’ dialog box appears.)

NOTE: A DHCP server must be present on your network to use this option. The DHCP server will automatically assign IP addresses to RAS clients from its address scope in the same manner that local clients are assigned IP addresses.

b] To create a static address pool for remote clients:

1} Select the ‘Use static address pool’ radio button.

2} Type the first address of the static pool in the ‘Begin’ box, and type the last address in the static pool in the ‘End’ box.
NOTE: The static address pool must be a valid range of IP addresses which are excluded from the scope of your DHCP server address pool.

3} (Optional) Exclude a range of IP addresses from the RAS address pool:

a} Type the first address of the exclusion range in the ‘From’ box.

b} Type the last address of the exclusion range in the ‘To’ box.

c} Click ‘Add’. (The range of IP addresses appears in the ‘Excluded ranges’ box.)

4] Click ‘OK’.

7) Click ‘OK’.

8) Click ‘Continue’.

9) Click ‘Close’. (The ‘Network Settings Change’ dialog box appears, prompting you to restart the computer to enable the new settings.)
