NAMES COUNT

"I have two Excel files that share information via links, and I want to use them as a 'master' for other similar applications. However, when I save either of the files under a new name, the links to that file in the other file remain linked to the ORIGINAL filename. This means I have to manually change the links, which is a real pain. Is there any way to have the link automatically acknowledge the new file name?"

Alas,  there isn't. Your Excel link (like everything else on your entire computer) has only one way of identifying a file, and that's by its FILENAME. Once you save the source file under a new name--or even rename it, for that matter--it's a new file as far as the computer is concerned; the link has no way of knowing what that file used to be named. Manually editing your links is the only way.
